Abstract

Panfolliculoma is an exceedingly rare tumor with differentiation toward the upper and lower segments of the pilosebaceous unit. The initial descriptions of panfolliculoma reported the presence of all follicular components in a benign dermal-based tumor without epidermal involvement. Recently, Harris et al. reported two cases of panfolliculoma involving the epidermis and introduced the term epidermal panfolliculoma to describe a panfolliculoma with two or more components of a hair follicle present within a corrugated epidermal neoplasm. Due to the common impression of dermis involvement in panfolliculoma, epidermal panfolliculoma is probably underreported and confused diagnostically with other epithelial neoplasms. We report 3 new cases of panfolliculoma which are confined to the epidermis and which show a verrucous silhouette while having multiple components of the hair follicle. Our reported cases and literature review further demonstrate the need to add epidermal panfolliculoma to the panfolliculoma categorization.
