Abstract
Rhabdomyomatous mesenchymal hamartoma is considered a rare congenital lesion that typically occurs on the head and neck of children. In this case, we present a 15-year-old male who presented to the dermatology clinic for evaluation of an asymmetric chin. Patient and mother note that they had noticed this assymmetry in early childhood, but it had progressively become more noticeable with age. On clinical examination, there was subtle fullness to the right side of the chin, and with palpation, a 3-centimeter mass was appreciated. An excision was performed on the lesion, and histology demonstrated peripheral skeletal muscle tissue, dense fibrous connective tissue, and foci of adipose tissue. The patient was subsequently diagnosed with a rhabdomyomatous mesenchymal hamartoma. This case exemplifies the clinical presentation of a rare entity. Overall, it is important for dermatologists and dermatopathologists to be aware of this hamartoma, the typical clinical and pathologic features, and its behavior.
