Abstract
We present the case of a 75-year-old male with a recurrent lesion on his left inferior lateral forehead which was biopsied two years prior and diagnosed as a chondroid syringoma. Repeat punch excision revealed a well-circumscribed nodular neoplasm in the superficial to mid dermis. The tumor consisted of cords and islands of banal epithelial cells set in a variably fibrous and chondromyxoid stroma. Ductal structures and cystic change were noted throughout the lesion. No significant atypia was observed, and mitoses were not abundant. The lesion demonstrated direct connection with the overlying epidermis at multiple foci. To our knowledge, epidermal connection in a chondroid syringoma is a rare phenomenon not well-discussed in the literature. Without prior biopsy to compare to, epidermal connection in a chondroid syringoma may lead to misdiagnosis, as this is not a typical finding.
